What is a LEI?

The Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is a 20-character alphanumeric global identification standard based on ISO standard 17442:2012. It was introduced in response to regulators' requirements to uniquely identify counterparties in a range of financial transactions.

LEIs are issued and maintained by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF). More information about LEIs and GLEIF can be found at www.gleif.org
